I was supposed to be in Hawaii visiting my eldest daughter, but instead, I’m in my backyard in Florida. Oh my, what a trip!
My husband and I both work from home although he does have to go to an office a few times a month. My youngest, 16, is doing virtual school and my stepson, 17, is going to school in person. Aside from that, our socialization is minimal.
With all the money we have saved from trips we didn’t go on, my family and I have been working on making a Zen space outdoors so we can feel like we’re on a staycation.
I love being outdoors and so I’ve been taking my coffee and lunch breaks in our remodeled patio, even during the chilly days.
Yes, I know that my concept of chilly is different than for someone living somewhere where there is snow. But, nevertheless …
Enjoying my coffee outdoors
The Stanley Brand Classic Stay Hot French Press is great to take outdoors, so I don’t have to pull off my cozy blanket and come back inside for a refill.
Also, my husband wakes up a couple of hours earlier than me, so making coffee in this cool press means that I can still enjoy warm coffee when I stumble into the kitchen later on.
I’ve written before about how I enjoy eating mindfully with no distractions, and it’s always more pleasurable when I do it in nature.
Having my meals in the backyard
Last week I cooked kitchari, an Ayurvedic dish of mung beans and rice, and stored it in the Stanley Adventure Stainless Steel Food Jar, to enjoy a “camping style” meal in the backyard.
The Classic Trigger Action Travel Mug held my ginger tea. It did not last long in my possession, though, since my 16-year old loved it and now has it in her room which doubles as a classroom now.
Well, this may not be Hawaii, but it’s not too shabby either!
As a yoga practitioner and lover of the outdoors, I have learned to make the best of everything.
I’d love to know how you are trying to enjoy your staycations, even if like me, you’re working from home.
