Sarasota Crafts Festival & Bring the Parks to You

Even if you live in the beautiful town of Sarasota, Florida, as I do, you may not always have the time or energy to enjoy the outdoors.

I get it.

I have three teens and a dog. Just being a mom is a full-time job in itself.

I run my business Viva Fifty Media with my husband, which is another full-time job. And I’m writing a book for a major book publisher.

I practice yoga to keep my sanity, but I usually go to an indoor studio to do this.

The importance of spending time outdoors

And yet I know how important it is to spend time outdoors to connect with nature.

I work from home, and when I need to recharge, I step outside to my backyard which is slightly wild and overgrown.

But I like it like that. The lush greenery makes me feel immediately revitalized.

I also have indoor plants and earthy elements like smooth stones around my workspace. They keep me grounded and remind me that nature is always close by.

Such small gestures can help increase our Nature Engagement Levels™ (N.E.L.s), which are important to our health and well-being.

Humana is sponsoring the National Parks Centennial celebration and is bringing the Bring the Parks to You tour to Florida.

To combat the growing trend of spending most of our lives indoors, Humana has developed the perfect traveling experience to transport participants from their town to the middle of the most beautiful parks in America.

Yes, even in Sarasota, which is mostly known as a beach town.

The Bring the Parks to You experience

If you are in the area, come to the Sarasota Craft Festival from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on October 22nd and 23rd, 2016.

And don’t miss the Bring the Parks to You experience, which includes several fun and engaging activities for the whole family:

  • A virtual reality experience, filmed in 360-degree video that places participants in the heart of either Joshua Tree or Yosemite National Park.
  • An interactive quiz, developed by Humana and National Geographic that evaluates each participant’s Nature Engagement Levels (N.E.L.s) to determine whether they are experiencing enough nature in their daily lives to stay in peak health.
  • A fun and interactive GIF generator will put participants in the middle of a whitewater rapid. This final product is hilarious and easy to share with all of your followers.
  • A pop-up log cabin will host all of these activities and provide just the right atmosphere for planning your next outdoor adventure.

About #StartWithHealthy

At 53, I know firsthand the benefits of being physically active, finding your purpose in life, and lowering stress levels.

Although now I practice yoga daily as my main activity, I have also been a runner, a dancer, and a swimmer.

My kids have all grown up watching me be physically active. My eldest, 15, is a basketball player; my stepson, 13, is practicing rowing; and my youngest, 12, does aerial yoga.

My husband goes to the gym 3 times a week. It pays to lead a healthy life and be an example to your kids or grandkids and even your spouse!

As a family, we enjoy the local beaches in Sarasota, or go SUP boarding or kayaking. Just hanging out together at a park is a great way to spend our Sunday afternoons.

That’s why I find Humana’s #StartWithHealthy initiative so relevant. It encourages and helps us all to do something to live a healthier life. And Humana is here to show that it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Humana believes its sponsorship of the National Park Service’s Centennial Celebration naturally supports the idea that everyone should Start With Healthy.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Humana. The opinions and text are all mine.
