As someone who needs to refill prescriptions every month, I appreciate being able to save as much as I can on them.

I have insurance, but I’ve learned it doesn’t always offer the best deal. I was excited to partner with Optum Perks to find out how I could save some money on my prescriptions.

I take meds for mental health (depression and anxiety) and hormones for menopause.

Some of these are more affordable than others. I actually found out that with Optum Perks I could save a lot on one of my prescriptions and that made me very happy.

Best of all, it doesn’t matter whether you use insurance or not.

Here is how Optum Perks works:

You go on the Optum Perks website and search the database of discounted drug prices to find the medication you need.

There is no membership involved, no fees to be paid and no personal information to be handed over to get started.

When you find your FDA-approved medication on the site, you will get a list of prices and providers where you can get your prescription filled.

You can save up to 80% on your prescriptions. There are over 64,000 pharmacies nationwide that participate in Optum Perks, including but not limited to; Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aide and Kroger.

Whether or not you have insurance, you can still get this savings.

Just keep in mind that if you use Optum Perks you will not be able to combine it with insurance or put the expense towards your deductible.

Optum Perks is actually perfect for prescriptions that are not covered by your insurance, or those medications in which using your deductible would be more expensive.

Click on the price and pharmacy of your choice from the list, and then claim your coupon. I chose to have it text-messaged to my smartphone and downloaded it there.

Once the coupon is on your phone, then you can redeem it at the pharmacy you chose, either in the drive-through or walking in.

I chose to wear a mask and walk inside to get my medication.

I personally saved around 70 percent on one of my prescriptions, which I didn’t even know I could do!
