When our family of five turned into six when my sister came to spend some much-needed R&R time with us, we quickly realized we needed a bigger car. So the chance to test-drive the Kia Sedona was perfectly timed.
Laura is more than my sister, I love her like a daughter. I know what that feels like because I’m a mom.
She’s had a rough year, losing her best friend to cancer, being laid off, and being asked for a divorce.
When she arrived in mid-December I set out some magazines and swag on her bed, just like when we go to social media conferences, so she’d feel welcome and at home.
I wanted her to feel pampered and special, but with a crowd in the house, sometimes this was difficult to accomplish.
Driving the Kia Sedona down to Naples, Florida
We drove the Sedona down to Naples, Florida to pick up my daughters up from their Christmas stay with their dad.
The KIA’s drive is smooth. I almost felt like I was piloting an airplane instead of driving a vehicle.
As in other KIA cars, I love the blind-spot alert. It’s visual and also emits a sound if you try to change lanes and there is a car in your blind spot.
My kids were very excited about the back seats. They could recline. But not only that, they could also put up their feet on the foot-rest and take a nap, or watch a DVD. Two sun roofs were a big plus for all of us.
We had a girls’ day out at the Miromar Outlet Mall in Estero, and then we packed our purchases into the van’s hatch with room to spare.

A New Year’s week more luxurious and comfortable
On our way home, the girls fell asleep, while Laura and I listened to High Definition radio and chatted about the past, the present and the future.
She’s still in that phase I was also at once, where you’re trying to figure out your next move after major losses.
During the drive at night, I turned on the alert that would tell me whether I was off my lane.
I was a little under the weather with a cold and wanted to make sure I stayed on track. That’s a great feature of the KIA Sedona.
During New Year’s Eve, we all had the 12 grapes at 6 pm as we do in Spain and then Facetimed with our family on the other side of the Atlantic. Even with our abuelita, who turned 99 on Three King’s Day.
After that we went over to the neighbors’ to celebrate American style. There’s never too much celebration when speaking of a brand new year.
January 1 we had 80+ F degrees in Sarasota, so that day my husband got behind the wheel and we cruised around town.
Both sunroofs were open, and at times we tested the air conditioning on the seats, just to see what it feels like!
From St. Armand’s circle to Longboat Key and Mote Marine, the aquarium, we showed Laura the nicest spots in our little town. She loves the ocean, so we stopped to take a picture by the bay.
There is also a very lush park close to home, Phillippi estates, that has short but wild trails. Laura and I ended our evening there, chatting about our plans for the new year.
For me 2015 was wonderful, for her, not so much. Either way we’re both glad 2016 is underway.
And that we got it off to a good start driving a fabulous KIA Sedona that made our New Year’s week so much more luxurious and comfortable.
