The next best thing to a bidet

The next best thing to a bidet

Having grown up in Europe, I was used to taking care of my lady parts in a bidet.

It’s a wonderful invention, designed to help women wash their vagina as needed, without having to wait for a shower or bath.

Now, for the past 11 years I’ve been living in the U.S. and what can I say, I miss my bidet!

Not only that, now that I have a teen and a tween daughter, I have to remind them of the importance of cleansing their vaginas properly.

So, how can we do this if we don’t have a bidet in the house?

Making sure we use a vagina-friendly cleanser

A shower is in order morning and night (or at least washing the vaginal area).

But we really shouldn’t be using soap, or other foaming cleaners, to wash our delicate vaginal tissue, because the foam breaks down the natural protective barrier which keeps the tissue moist.

A non-foaming, creamy product, called Lubrigyn Lotion, is not only a cleanser, it’s also a refreshing moisturizer and lubricant, and can be used with or WITHOUT water.

This is absolutely perfect for women on the go.

One of the active ingredients in the lotion is sodium hyaluronate, used in many facial skin care products as a great moisturizer–that’s how I know it’s also lubricating our feminine parts to keep them supple!

And, it feels silky to the touch.

Keeping our vagina clean and healthy on the go

The lotion is packed with Lubrigyn Wipes, which come in handy for busy women like me and sporty daughters like mine when we’re out and about.

I remind my girls that although the vagina is “self-cleansing,” we still need to keep the external area clean. Wiping with toilet paper alone isn’t enough.

I also remind them to wipe properly, from front to back to avoid passing germs and impurities from the anus to our delicate vagina.

In summer, we need to wipe and dry off our vaginal area after hanging out at the pool or the beach. Lubrigyn disposable wipes are perfect for this.

Keeping our lady parts lubricated

When I was younger, I may have occasionally cursed my period cramps, but now that I’m undergoing menopause, one of the side effects is dryness everywhere.

My complexion, my skin, my hair, and yes, my poor vagina—all running dry.

This means that something that is supposed to feel sexy and fun, like intercourse, can be painful.

I’ve also tried Lubrigyn Cream, which isn’t sticky or greasy, is odorless and… thankfully for my husband, tasteless! It’s also free of parabens and is hypoallergenic.

How is this different from the cleansing lotion? Well, the cream is a more concentrated. It’s designed as a moisturizer and/or a lubricant before intercourse.

Keeping the conversation going

I say let’s not have vagina monologues, but real and open conversations about this important body part.

Whether you have vaginal dryness due to menopause, diabetes, hormonal changes or any other reason, it’s good to know there’s a solution to your problem!

If your discomfort is extreme, don’t hesitate to visit your doctor and tell him or her how you’re feeling!

And you know what really makes me happy? That these vaginal cleansing and moisturizing products by Lubrigyn come from Europe, specifically from Italy, where bidets abound and where they’re the number 1 choice in feminine care.

Ok, so I wasn’t able to bring a bidet with me to the U.S., but now have the next best thing: Lubrigyn! The lotion, wipes, and cream are all available at CVS.
